Keeping the Iconic Murray's Restaurants Eatery Alive

Murray’s Restaurant, how it takes me back! My earliest memories are intertwined with the comforting ambiance of the Lucerne Shopping Centre location. After those chilly mornings of picking up my sister from her Rob Roy ski lessons in the sixties, Murray’s was our haven. Its family-style setting, reminiscent of a cozy diner, offered the perfect respite with its heartwarming dishes.

The Lunch Pro is creating a section devoted to Murray’s Restaurants. Starting with an exclusive collection of replica items in our shop and the recipe to their much cherished Steamed Fruit Pudding with Vanilla Custard Sauce, this is not just a page of my memories; it’s a journal for you to write yours. From Montreal to Toronto to Ottawa to Sudbury, Murray’s was an institution, and I’m sure many of you have your own stories to tell. Whether it was a Sunday family lunch or a quick bite after a day of shopping, every trip to Murray’s was a story, whether about the people who joined you or, as was often the case, those who served you.

I will peruse the menu with you, and if you like to cook, you’re in luck. I’ve gathered some of Murray’s most beloved dishes for you. Who can forget the creamy Rice Custard Pudding, Signature Bran Muffins, or their iconic Steamed Fruit Pudding?

I have adapted their original recipes to use today’s ingredients and cooking methods and will continue revising them over time.

But the nostalgia doesn’t end there! We’re bringing a slice of Murray’s Restaurants to your home with memorabilia to make you go all sentimental. Picture this: sipping your evening tea from a mug graced with the iconic Murray’s Blue M. Imagine this: sipping your evening tea from a mug with the Murray’s Blue M on it. For those who like modern twists, we’ve added vegetarian options, like a suet substitute for the Steamed Fruit Pudding.

So, as you browse through this section, I hope it warms your heart like Murray’s Restaurants did for all of us. Here’s to a trip down memory lane with Recipes, Reviews and Reminiscences!
