Total Time 13 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 slices whole grain bread about 70 calories per slice
  • 3 ounces lean turkey breast sliced, about 85g
  • ¼ avocado ripe, sliced, about 80 calories
  • 1 slice reduced-fat Swiss cheese or mozzarella, optional; omit for dairy-free
  • 2 slices tomato 1 to 2 slices, optional
  • salt and black pepper a pinch each
  • olive oil spray optional, for crisping

Equipment

Method

  1. Lay out both slices of bread. Layer the turkey on one slice, then add the cheese (if using) and tomato slices. Top with avocado slices and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Close with the second slice of bread.
  2. Lightly spray the outside of the sandwich with olive oil spray for extra crispiness, if desired.
  3. Preheat the air fryer to 370°F (188°C). Place the sandwich in the basket and air fry for 4 minutes, then carefully flip and air fry another 2 to 4 minutes, until the bread is golden and crispy and the cheese is melted.
  4. Let rest for 1 minute, then slice in half and serve warm.

Notes

Net carbs: 21g per serving (28g total carbs minus 7g fiber).
Substitutions: Omit the cheese to make it dairy-free and lower in calories. Any lean deli turkey works; choose a low-sodium option to cut the sodium.
Storage: Best fresh. Store components separately in the fridge and assemble just before air frying.
Reheating: Re-crisp in the air fryer for 1 to 2 minutes at a slightly lower temperature.
