Ingredients

Main
  • 4 hot dogs Hot dogs Cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 tablespoon Oil For frying
  • 1 medium Onion Diced
  • 1 can Pork and beans Canned
  • 2 tablespoons Brown sugar substitute To taste

Equipment

Method

  1. Start by cutting your hot dogs into bite-size pieces, making sure they're uniform so they cook evenly.
  2. Heat oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Add the cut hot dogs and diced onion. Fry this mixture, stirring occasionally, until the onions become tender and translucent and the hot dogs develop a nice golden-brown color on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Pour the entire can of pork and beans directly into the pan with the hot dog mixture. Add brown sugar substitute to taste, stirring everything together until well combined.
  4. Reduce the heat to medium-low and let the mixture simmer gently for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking and ensure even heating.
  5. Remove the pan from heat and serve the dish hot. It pairs wonderfully with cornbread or crusty rolls.

Notes

Don't rush the browning process for maximum flavor. You can customize this recipe by using different types of sausages or adding diced bell peppers. For a smokier flavor, use smoked sausage and consider adding a dash of paprika.
